So that if your engine burns oil, your engine will not run smoothly as before. It can cause misfires and shuddering of your jeep.
Ultimately your engine power can be reduced. In my case I felt a significant reduction of the acceleration of my engine.
If engine defects like reduction of power and throttle response are also seen with the above mentioned facts, that could be an oil burning in your jeep. If you diagnosed that your engine burns an unusual amount of oil, then you have to find out what is the reason for that. This is a very common cause for oil burns when the engine gets worn out. But we should fix it as soon as possible.
Otherwise this can lead to more damages that will need to replace piston heads and many other parts inside the engine. Piston rings should seal the combustion chamber by fitting tightly against the chamber walls. It avoids engine oil entering to the combustion chambers. But over time piston rings can be worn out and make tiny gaps between rings and the wall.
That leads to engine oil entering the combustion chamber at higher pressures. Then excessive amounts of engine oil can burn inside combustion chambers along with gas fuel mixture. The head gasket seals combustion chambers from engine oil as well as coolant fluids that flow through the passages of the engine block. As an example due to abnormally higher temperatures of the engine, head gasket gasket can damage.
That can ultimately lead to oil and coolant fluids entering into the combustion chambers and destroying the engine. Blue smoke is proof positive that your Wrangler is burning oil. This is very well the reason that you have come to this page. But, a low oil level does not necessarily indicate that you are burning oil. It could be leaking out of the engine. If you normally park your Wrangler in one place, look under it and see if there is any fluid under the engine. This could indicate that the oil is exiting through the seals, and not through the combustion chamber.
If oil is slipping past the valve seals, it can make its way onto the spark plugs. When this happens your Wrangler is likely to start running worse and misfiring, as the spark plug will no longer be able to achieve a clean spark. Burning oil has its own smell.
While sitting at an intersection, we could smell burning oil and smoke. Got the Jeep home and found a steady drip of oil around bell housing.
Found that engine valley is overflowing with oil, oil filter adapter housing failure and causing oil to leak onto hot engine creating intense smoke. The repair for this common environmental fire hazard is costly. Why is this not a recall?. Failure of oil cooler housing, noticed oil burning smell looked under the Jeep and saw oil everywhere. While driving noticed an oil burning smell, got home and looked under the hood and found a pool of engine oil. Found out from owner of the same car that a broken oil cooler assembly.
This could have cause the car to burn- very dangerous indeed. Happens in lots of Chrysler's vehicles. Tl-the contact owns a Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that there was an engine oil leak which produced a burning odor. The contact stated that engine oil leaked onto the transmission housing.
The contact stated that there was evidence of an oil leak on the ground underneath the vehicle as well. The vehicle was taken to Jeep Chrysler Dodge ram fiat of ontario, auto center dr, ontario, CA , , to be diagnosed which was still pending. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 59, Noticed oil on the garage floor in January Engine is leaking oil from the oil cooler that is on top on the engine. Could be a fire hazard as oil drains down the back of the engine.
Vehicle has miles on it but has been leaking for a while. Now it is leaking very bad and can smell burnt oil when driving. Looking on forums online and many to 3. Issue seams to be from faulty gaskets and in some cases cracked housings on the oil cooler. Mine is no longer covered under any warranty.
I thought it was from the oil pan gasket at first, but when I started to smell oil burning, I started looking closer at it and found oil laying in the valley on top of the engine. The oil filter housing assembly is made of plastic that cracks.
This leads to oil leaking and several inches of oil sits in the v of the hot engine until it spills over. This is a definite fire hazard. Fca needs to recall with a redesigned part made of metal. I have already replaced mine twice in 1 yr.
Replacing it with the same part is not fixing it. Failed at 29k miles and now at 42k miles. Mine was covered under power train warranty but this is unacceptable quality and practices.
I noticed oil leaking underneath the engine again and this time I thought it was the rear main seal. I noticed burnt oil in the v of the engine block as well. To my suprise, same part has failed already. Parts failing at this low of mileage are a design flaw that is being ignored by fca. Something needs to be done.
One last thing. While the mechanic had it apart, he noticed the head gasket was leaking too so he replaced that at 29k miles. I thought it was from someone else's car. It also appeared to be dripping on my hot exhaust which is a fire hazard. I took the vehicle to my mechanic and he said it's due a cracked plastic oil cooler housing, it's going to set me back a lot of money, and the issue may happen again. I'm lucky that the oil did not catch on fire.
I've done research online and see that numerous Jeep Wranglers have this oil leakage due to design flaw utilizing plastic parts. Started with burning oil smell in vehicle.
Then puddle on the ground wherever I parked. Went back to see if they put the oil filter on wrong. Found out it was the oil housing leaking. Everywhere Threads This forum This thread. New posts. Burning oil. Thread starter mgroeger Start date Sep 10, I can also see I'm a little damp on the driver's side of the engine from a valve cover weep and possible oil pan gasket weep. NONE of this is causing any substantial leaking or oil loss. After 1k miles I was shocked to be 1 qt low since I had never seen that before. Then I noticed that the filler cap said 10w oil and I had just put in 5w It gets very hot here in the summer, on top of that I off road it and the motor has k on it.
Is it possible that the engine consumed that qt. I have not seen this issue before when it was cooler out. I do plan on bumping to 10w for the summer and 10w for winter. Also, there is no smoke at start up or at any time when driving. The exhaust does have a slightly richer smell on start up than my wife's Wrangler but that is to be expected. When I allow the Jeep to warm up in the garage I do get black tiny dot splatter on the floor from where the exhaust hits.
Even though you have only 1K on your oil change I would be changing to the manufacturers recommendation on oil viscosity now. Reactions: Flivver , Chris and mgroeger. Mike the Silver TJ said:.
