A perusal of either Shia or Wahhabi literature would reveal the distaste each feels for the other, although the ideology of Khomeinism which at its root is a repudiation of the basic tenets of Shia Islam shares many common characteristics with Wahhabism.
Both fuse the state and religion into a single entity. Both use the bitterest terms to describe rivals. And both are authoritarian, with no pretence at democracy or matters such as gender justice. The s Afghanistan-oriented alliance between the NATO powers and Wahhabi extremists was as beneficial for the former as backing from the UK was for followers of the creed in the early part of the last century. But for such support, it is doubtful that the Al Saud would ever have succeeded in driving away the Turks from the Hejaz, and in taking over what has since been named as Saudi Arabia.
This fusion of interests took place despite an existing Wahhabi world-view that was in absolute contradiction with that of the West. Its restrictive, regressive vision makes it impossible for Wahhabis to ever be genuine partners of the West, in a way that India and its million English-speaking population has the potential to. Any partnership between them can only be opportunistic, discarded once the need for it is extinguished.
From , the year the Taliban fled from NATO and its newfound Afghan allies, the course of action propagated by Al Qaeda of using violence against the West in an effort to get them to retreat has become discredited. Even as Al Qaeda has become a ghost organisation, visible mostly in the virtual world, the philosophy of Wahhabism — especially its extreme variants — remains a long-term security risk to the civilised world.
In particular, through the spread of Wahhabi education in tens of thousands of religious schools across the globe, the practitioners of this creed are breeding tens of millions of youth who are certain to remain outside the productive economy, and as a consequence, seethe with resentment and anger against the rest of society. Unfortunately, in large parts of the world, the reverse is taking place.
Two such are the Sunnis and Wahabis. Due to their many differences in prayers, rituals and beliefs, Sunni Muslims and Wahabi Muslims got separated into different sects. They parted ways and continued to believe in their way of praying to the Almighty.
The difference between Sunni and Wahabi is that Sunni Muslims follow Mohammad Prophet and treat him as the messenger of God whereas Wahabi Muslims do not believe that he is a messenger and believe that he should be only treated as a human. Sunni Muslims were the first group that formed after the death of Mohammad Prophet and are the followers of the Sunnah.
They form new rules for Islam and name these activities as Islamic. They believe in the powers of rituals and celebration of annual Sufi festivals. Wahabi Muslims are the followers of Mohammad ibne Abdul Wahab and got their name from him. This sheikh was present in the 18 th century. They only follow the words of their sheikh. Sunni Muslims are the group of people who follow Mohammad Prophet and his followers.
They are the ones who get new Islamic manners and label them as Islam. They are moderate and are not orthodox Muslims. They also treat their women as their equal. Main Difference The main difference between Sunni and Wahabi is that Sunni show extra respect for the prophet Muhammad while Wahabi also respects the Prophet Muhammad but have the belief that He should be respected as a human being only.
Wahabi Wahabi is a person from a strict and fundamentalist Sunni Muslim group established by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab — Sunni believes in mysticism and intercession while Wahabi terms these wrongful innovations in Islam. Most of the Sunni observe the Prophet of Muhammad, Sufi festivals, and other Islamic events while Wahabis are against all these. Wahabi tries to live as close to Muhammad as possible while Sunni follows almost all those who according to them are on right path.
The concept of Jihad is strong in Wahabi as compared to the Sunni. Wahabis are more conservative as compared to the Sunnis.
According to Sunnis, Allah God does not resemble anything. He is free from the body, etc. He also exists without a place while Wahabis are against all these beliefs and also believe Allah is sitting on Arsh, above skies.
